Hi cosmic! So, I've been looking this threat since it was created and never posted on it. By the way you did a great job sharing this on this forum. But today is a different day! I had a LD this morning and think it was thanks to this technique and i'd like to be sure. So here it is : I woke up after 6 hours of sleep or so and wrote a dream then i did some cycles and went to sleep. During the next dream, i dreamt that someone put my feet in ice wich made them feel numb and woke me up 2 time (was that SP?). Then i got full of vibration and once it stopped, i could get up in the dream by rolling out of the bed. Current LD goal(s): Use the dreamclock
So after few nights of trying this technique I have succes. I am very happy! As ussually I woke up after 5 or 6 hours of sleep did some cycles and go sleep. Then I fall asleep without even recognize it (I am newbie in LD so I don't have much experience to recognise it) but fortunatelly there was strange things in my room so I decided to do RC and it confirmed me that I am dreaming. Last night there was also some FA but everytime when I start thinking that strage thing are around me I woke up in reality. Thank you that you shared this technique it really helped me. Current LD goal(s): learn something about myself
cosmic.iron wrote:By repeatedly focusing on the various senses, SSILD seems to bring heightened awareness within dreams, as well as making you more sensitive to the sensations felt while falling asleep. On previous page there are couple of posts in which I was discussing the theory behind SSILD. Maybe you will find that interesting. ------- Yes, I read this. I have definitely noticed I am considerably more aware of the sensations while falling asleep. I tend to find it a little difficult falling asleep, and what SSILD does for me is make me very aware of the tingling (etc) and I subsequently feel slightly uncomfortable (and have a hard time sleeping). If I don't get to sleep, however, it means I'm very likely to go into SP. It happened again this morning after doing the techniques. I don't know if you have encountered this with other users of the technique, but if it's true it could mean getting right to sleep afterwards is not absolutely crucial as there is another potential means of accessing an LD for those with sleeping difficulty. I did get to sleep in the end (after losing the SP unfortunately), and had what I believe was my most vivid normal dream yet. Therefore, what I have found so far basically supports your theory. Early days though! Current LD goal(s): SSILD/ADA/RCing throughout August
Thanks to this (I think) I had my first ever lucid dream! Seriously, amazing, took me like two months - i've had 2 FA's before - but this was a real lucid dream where I could explore the dream world and do what ever I wanted, my dream control was poor seeing how it's my first time so I woke up after about 10-15minutes but it was still awesome and i'm so happy that I finally got it . The reason I said '(I think)' is because i'm not entirely sure that it was because of this technique or weather it was just luck. I woke up after my first dream at around 3AM or something and I was sooooooooo tired. I managed to try this technique out, spent about 20seconds looking at the blackness then focused on what I could hear but because I was so tired I fell asleep (accidentally). So I only did this for about 30seconds but it lead to a lucid dream in the middle of the morning. You're supposed to do the cycle 4-5 times but I didn't even do it once which is why i'm not sure if my lucid dream was due to this technique or if I got lucky. You guys got any thoughts on this? Either way i'm still extremely pleased at my first lucid dream. Current LD goal(s): Recognise bizzare dream signs.
This gave me two lucid dreams last night. For once, I fell asleep almost instantly after finishing the cycles and was later in an FA. Although I didn't realize it was an FA, I experienced SP in the dream and that led me to WILD within the dream and reach lucidity. Although it wasn't a real WILD, the outcome was the same. I then had a brief DEILD later. Also, I had another super-realistic dream. That is to say, I woke up from it and thought "that was a dream?!". A very successful night all in all, and I'm beginning to accept that it is thanks to this technique. Current LD goal(s): SSILD/ADA/RCing throughout August
Thanks so much, cosmic.iron, for the SSILD instructions! I had a series of LDs after WBTB at 3:20am. I woke up at 3:20 and read the first few pages of this original thread as a refresher, then gave it a try. I have only had a few LDs, but have studied it intently, reading books, and studying the forum, and trying various techniques. Lately, I have been trying to do Giz Edward's stop, drop and roll WILD tech, but I am never able to make it to HH or paralysis. Honestly, the HH still scares me a little bit b/c I actually discovered this whole world of LD by researching to see how to stop experiencing FAs (I didn't know what they were but was so relieved to find out it happens to other people, too.) They were always terrifying. That's why this technique really appealed to me when saw it on LD4all, b/c I have not yet gotten past my fear of HH. The only problem I had last night with the SSILD is that when i felt myself falling asleep, I would panic a little, fearing that I wasn't falling asleep fast enough and might instead be going into HH. I had to repeat the cycle numerous times, and every time I would start to fall asleep, I'd jerk myself back awake. I just kept returning to my eyelids (that was the easiest one for me) and told myself to breath deeply and evenly. One issue was that the lights behind my eyelids kept making scary faces, but I told myself to turn them into clouds and flowers. Eventually, it worked! It seems like I went straight into an OBE (I've never done that before) and went out my front door into the yard. There, I became fully lucid, and decided to fly into the sunrise. When I first became aware in the OBE, it was like i didn't have a body, but was just a round ball of awareness floating up high. I had a dream body now b/c I could feel the wind on my skin and I did wonderful barrel rolls out into the stars. Amazing! I landed but conintued to be lucid. Later, I had a FA, but told myself to go back to sleep and try it again. In my FA, I returned SSILD, looking at the lights inside my eyes and was able to enter another great LD where I FINALLY remembered to interact with a DC (one of my LD goals). Questions, 1) any tips for making me go straight to sleep without being aware going into SP? This jolting myself awake maked it take a long time to finally fall asleep 2) is there really a distinction between OBE and LD? Mine seemed to morph from OBE to LD. Or was my whole flying dream an OBE? Thanks again! I'm so excited about this technique! This is going to be a great day and I look forward to trying it again tonight. Current LD goal(s): My first real LD was vivid, and I was very lucid. I want to do that again.
So I tried this technique again last night, mixing it with some MILD mantras (I've been practicing some new mantras, which have worked ok) and had another LD! I've had a few that were Ashley and not very vivid, but this one was closer to the first few a had: detailed, longer, and more controlled! My dream control is still poor (tried to grow a trail but couldn't), but I'm making progress and that's exciting! Current LD goal(s): look at my dream body, talk with a dream character and look at them closely

Or was my whole flying dream an OBE?------- I think the key here "less intent" and "staying passive". When focusing on the sensations, do not expect to see, hear, or feel anything. As you cycle more, you will drift further into the trance. You will know its happening when your thoughts begin to wander. Do not fight it. Treat it like a gentle wave, allow it to carry you deeper and deeper. This process should be totally relaxing. Once you feel you have relaxed completely (ready to fall asleep in a second) you should stop and go to sleep in the most comfortable position. Personally I do not think there is a real difference between an OBE and LD.
Another similar experience this morning to my earlier ones. After the cycles I did feel like I had sunk into more of a trance, but I tend to gradually become more and more awake after I stop doing it (as opposed to the other way around). Yet again, though, I went into SP. The odd thing was I didn't feel like I was particularly close to being asleep, as I could clearly hear the birds outside, and could continue to do so as I went into the lucid dream. This woke me up from it. Current LD goal(s): SSILD/ADA/RCing throughout August
Hey! So two days ago i woke up and stayed awake for 1 hour. After that i went back to bed and did SSILD but it took me a long time and it was totally worth it! I had 3 highly lucid LD's by chaining them. This technique is extremly powerful especially with WBTB. Thank you again! Current LD goal(s): Use the dreamclock
Small question: Do you have to be completely still while doing this method? Can you swallow, itch, etc, unlike WILD?
skullgunner1 wrote: Small question: Do you have to be completely still while doing this method? Can you swallow, itch, etc, unlike WILD? ------- You CAN swallow and itch with WILD btw. It depends on your technique. Current LD goal(s): Fly faster
Hi guys. I practiced this method last night. I was defeated by the inabiliy to sleep and hunger... ever since I've been trying the WBTB method with an alarm I have been having trouble falling asleep. Any thoughts or guidance on how to fall asleep fast? I did have two fairly vivid ND though .

Read closely the section which discusses the various common causes for losing sleeps after doing the exercise. 2. Do not stay awake for too long. I suggest starting with 5 minutes. General rule of thumb is: If you find it difficult to complete 2 cycles, then you are not sufficiently awake. On the other hand if your mind does not begin to wander after 4 cycles, then you are too awake. Adjust your WBTB duration using 5-minute increments. 3. Try some supplement such as 5-HTP or Melatonin before going to bed. These supplements will make you sleep better, and cause REM rebound after a few hours thus giving you large trunks of REM. 4. Have faith in the SSILD technique. Do NOT over-do it. Just 4-5 cycles and go to sleep. You WILL become lucid sooner or later. If you wake up without getting an LD, simply do another 4 cycles. Chaining the exercise like this will give you a very high success rate (please DO remember reality-checking often upon waking up as the method likes to throw you into super realistic FAs).

I have been doing research, and I find out phone radiation can cause lack of sleep, (I use my phone for an alarm.) so it may turn out that WBTB may not be the cause, it might be the phone that I used as a alarm! I will test this method out tonight without a phone and a real alarm, and I'll report the results! On a side note, I started losing focus on the first cycle lol, it was hard to get through 4 without my mind just completely straying. Thanks for the response.
Well, I tried it for the third night, but this really doesn't count because I was tricked by a damn snooze alarm into thinking it was 2:00AM when it was like 11:30PM. Because of that, no Lucid dreams
Okay so I have been looking into SSILD and it sounds very interesting, and promising. But I have one question about the technique, when you are laying down doing the cycles are you supposed to stay completley still, I would imagine you are because movements would distract you from the cycles, but do things like swallowing and moving your eyes matter like they do in WILD. I know that you are not trying to induce dreams from the waked state using this technique but would those things distract you? I just tried this technique for the first time the other night and I fell asleep while doing the cycles and I didnt get any results. Im really excited to keep trying this tech though. Current LD goal(s): Have a vivid LD
I posted this on a separate thread but I will repost here: I tried SSILD last night for the first time after about 5 hours of sleep, because I woke up. I got to the 4th or 5th repetition before I went to sleep. But a short time later I woke up(?) with a massive buzzing/vibrating feeling centered in my head. I didn't know what to do and to be honest I found it quite scary so I think I woke up fully and then went back to sleep. What was this? Current LD goal(s): Have a lucid dream!

The sensation is called "vibration", which is frenqently associated with OBE. It's nothing to be frightened about, just harmless illusions, and can be very exciting and enjoyable. You apparently did SSILD perfectly in order to achieve this effect. I suggest you read more about this phenomena to learn how to utilize it (Astral Projection people also use it for projecting, but I really don't suggest going that occult route in terms of both practice and view point. Science with an open mind will probably do you more good in this case).

I experience no LD when I try SSILD. Where am I going wrong? Current LD goal(s): Fly faster

If there is a itch, just scratch it; back feeling stiff? Just stretch a bit. You can always compensate by doing maybe an extra cycle or two.

I suspect the unsuccessful attempt was cased by one of the followings: 1. Not sufficiently woken up prior to doing the exercise. Try to adjust it in small 5-minute increment till you find the perfect one for you. 2. Fooled by FAs. Did you recall waking up after the exercise? Did you RC upon waking up? Did you abruptly get up when you woke? This last item is very interesting because we often wake up at the borderline between an FA and a real one. The transition from one to another can be seamless. You should treat each waking up after the exercise as an opportunity -- always RC, and always wake up "delicately". 3. Bad recall. Have you been keeping a dream journal? Also try not going to bed after 12. Keep at it. It will work! I'm always here to help.

Incidentally, what do you recommend doing during the 5 minutes? Also, supposing I start at 5 minutes, how many nights should I stick with 5 minutes until I step up to 10? 2. Definitely did an RC. I usually rinse my month and surf the web a bit with my iPad... As I said, the technique comes with no warranty but it is pretty solid. Many people have mastered the technique and achieved very high success rate. On my personal forum I require each member (the active ones) to keep a personal thread. They use this mechanism to record their experiences, and interact with me at an individual level. This kind of coaching is quite effective. One guy managed to have 400+ LDs/OBEs in less than a year, and even the less amazing ones now average 3-4 per week. Of course there are also people who absolutely cannot succeed, but if you look their stuff closely you realize they either never bothered to read the instructions carefully, or they mix things up and never could approach this in a systematic manner. One other thing I'd like to mention is the use of supplement. I highly suggest the combination of Galantamine + Choline Bitartrate + Alpha GPC. This is proven to enhance WILD, but it is even better with SSILD. With WILD you have to work a long time (up to an hour or more) to make this work, but with SSILD you just do your 4-5 cycles and go to sleep, then wait for miracles to happen. You WILL have multiple LDs/OBEs after that, and they can last a long time. Try it!
Hey Cosmic. So it's been about 4 months since I've been using the technique. I don't always use it, usually I start it if I am trying to WILD and I'm not sleepy enough. This, for some reason, gets me lots of DILDs, and many times those DILDs get me into sleep paralysis. The dream would have been going for 5 minutes or so before I snap. If this doesn't happen, I just go into sleep paralysis. If that doesn't happen, I just fall asleep. I''ve counted the success rate over 3 months and this is what I got: 20% DILDs (10% of which get me into sleep paralysis and fail, and 5% of which get me into sleep paralysis and get me into a lucid dream/obe) 30% sleep paralysis (5% which get me into an lucid dream/obe) and 50% fails So the overall success rate is 20%, which is pretty good. I suspect that the DILD -> SP -> LD has more success rate than SP -> LD since I'm in a more relaxed state. This is what happens when I'm doing SILD: 1. I relax my body 2. I proceed as instructed, and usually stop to the sounds or sensations but never at the visuals 3. Fall asleep or enter sleep paralysis My only problem now is getting from sleep paralysis to lucid dream. I get confused between my dream eyes and have trouble getting "out of body".
Thanks cosmic. I think I will give my full attention to the SSILD technique. Thanks also Kache for telling us your experiences. It is useful to see how others use a technique. Too often on LD forums people "disappear" and don't report if a new technique is working for them or not. Current LD goal(s): Fly faster

I'd sort of been under the impression that galantamine and choline fit best with those who used the WILD method. But my own experience with SSILD is that it generates lots of DILDs (especially DILDs via false awakening.) Is there something special about SSILD that makes it uniquely well-suited for this supplementation or is this the general "lucid dreaming cocktail" that you like the best, regardless of technique? Also, what dosages and timings do you typically use/recommend for this combo? Is this a "right before bed" thing or "right before you perform SSILD cycles" thing? Is supplementation you still do yourself? Even though you clearly have no need for supplementation in order to have LDs (as you have thousands!), do you still personally prefer the enhanced clarity and recall that comes from this supplement mixture? Current LD goal(s): Stand on top of the Great Pyramid.
