There is a dongle for that!^(tm)
This may be well beyond my level of understanding but if battery life is an issue how do some manufacturers (e.g. Lenovo) manage to make laptops with Xeon processors and 64 GB of RAM?
IF you make 3D things 16 is small. Or video editing.
Every night I pray for Harambe to send us Steve Jobs back.
The words "pro" and "professional" have been so overused and abused by marketing departments everywhere that, at this point, they barely mean anything anyway.

Ah yes, I remember a few days ago I watched that clip of Steve Jobs explaining why Xerox failed. hmm...
I have users in my office who claim around 24 GB of RAM just in Photoshop alone. For heavier production work using Photoshop, illustrator, zbrush etc, ram gets chewed up fast
But then there is the 5.5" inches + phones trend. The market was very accepting of those. In the begging it was in part for the improved battery life(i think).
Some people have to be mobile a lot and use their laptop as a mobile workstation.
People used to say 4GB was more than you'd ever need (for "most people"). The internet, OS, and applications are getting more and more RAM hungry every year.
No designer who lives on AI, PS, or any respectable pro video editing software will be using Ubuntu anytime soon.
Not sure why anyone is downvoting you, this is clearly true. Some amount of back-light brightness is lost when you let it shoot out the back rather than reflect it forward toward the user. To get the same brightness level you'd need to increase power to the backlight.
Some of us who work remotely at customers, varying design centers, etc have no choice. Plus some companies like their designers to have to option to be mobile for travel, even if they have a home office.
I think they do it wirelessly now or something.
Same for phones. I don't need my phone any thinner. It fits in my pocket, I can hold it with my hand. I do need it to last through the day, or even multiple days.
I have two devices sitting on my table that have 256MB RAM. Of course, neither of them is a laptop.
You know nice thing about writing your own OS and building your own computers is that you could probably find a clever way to shut down the unneeded ram to save power. Or you could just compromise on core specs knowing your customers will still buy as long as the logo is still etched into the aluminum body somewhere.
Exactly. I've be using Macs for 10 years professionally, but next year I'm gonna build a hackintosh.
They should release a Mac Pro Fit as another slap in the face to its customers.
The logo doesn't glow anymore? That's depressing.
Scientists, as well. If you're in data science in any industry, chances are good you have a top-end MBP. You can, of course, use it as a dumb terminal, but in that case, any computer will work. The idea behind the Pro, being named the Pro, is that professionals can use it to do their work on it.
Or running any VMs, like the entire software industry.
A lot of design professionals work on the road out of necessity. If you have to fly several times a month to China or Europe from the US, it sure would be great to take advantage of those long flights if you're on deadline. Sure if the tech wasn't there it would be another story. But laptops have had the ability to go beyond 16GB for years now, and design professionals are arguably the Mac's primary market. It's just a poor decision.
And here I just upgraded my desktop from 8 to 16, even though I didn't *really* need it. My work laptop, on the other hand, has 8 and really needs to be upgraded to 16. Stupid web-based apps.
Surely the brightness does not reflect evenly from every spot to every spot of the screen. I find it hard to believe that there is extra brightness added *to some area in the center of the screen* to compensate.
It is possible to connect to iTunes via wifi sync.
I just love how my Lenovo W series is ~$1000 and benchmarks better than my father's $2500 MBP. The only thing my father's is faster at is storage speed. Also has ports out the ass for everything. They're almost the perfect "workstation" laptop. Dell and Lenovo workstation laptops are on point
Full time designer and photo editor here, I don't always work in one place, my company has multiple locations, I have an imac at my "main" office and keep my entire work library synced between it and a mbp with google drive. I commonly notice my mbp failing when i have illustrator, photoshop, lightroom, and indesign all running, on a big monthly flyer campaign with 20+ pages and many versions, only saving grace is having SSDs these days, at least i can start up and shut down one or two at a time quickly as needed. Went big thinkpad workstation for awhile, but 10 years on mac and everything else at work mac made life annoying, very sad. Would adore more ram over anything.
Chrome is like 100meg per tab. Crazy when you think about it.
