*They like standardizing so they can create a seamless ecosystem for all their products.* Obviously, which is why I can plug my iPhone 7's earbuds into my new Macbook Pro and plug in the USB-Lightning cable that came with it into the new Macbook Pro, too.
Algorithms to do certain common tasks have already become almost as efficient as they possibly can too. Theres not a new sorting algorithm being released every year or something for example. And sorting is a very common thing in almost every application.
Mute your speakers. Play them all at once. Leave the room for a couple minutes. Come back in and hold Ctrl+Tab with your eyes closed. Whatever you land on is now your material for the next four and a half seconds.
Not a tech head or an Apple user, but in my wee brain, the thought occurred that paging back and forth between the SSD and the RAM would use more energy than having more RAM to start with. Could somebody please explain why my thoughts are wrong?
that and you can't use your lightning port headphones on a macbook. while not technically big issues it shows apple cracking and not beaing the "it just works" premium brand they have built themselfs up to be. the iphone 7 included cable should have been a lightning to type c at the least and the macbook pro should have had a lightning port for headsets. currently apple users are not properly experiancing the benefits of the wall garden while paying even more for it.

I need to have at least 20 tabs of 4k60fps porn sites to properly jerk off. For this reason, I don't foresee myself getting the new Macbook Pro.
To really see a large difference, compare the latest 15 inch macbook pro, to the Lenovo p50 using a skylake CPU also) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8TK4C50652 - Intel Xeon Core E3-1505M Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.7 GHz) - Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit, SmartCard Reader, Fingerprint Reader - 15.6" 4K UHD IPS (3840 x 2160) Anti-Glare, Non-Touch Display - 256GB Solid State Drive (upgradeable, 1 NVMe, and 2 SATA) - 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2133 MHz (upgradeable) - NVIDIA Quadro M2000M Graphics with 4GB VRAM (similar to a GTX 960m though it is faster than the GPU on the macbook pro) - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC (2x2) 8260, Bluetooth Version 4.1 - 720p HD Webcam with Dual Array Microphone, Pantone Color Sensor - Backlit, Spill-Resistant Keyboard with Full Number Pad - I/O Ports: 4x USB 3.0 ports (one Always On), HDMI, mini-DisplayPort, Ethernet (RJ-45), USB Type-C / Thunderbolt 3, Headphone/Mic Combo, 4-in-1 card Reader, Dock Connector - Mil-Spec Test: MIL-STD-810G military certification They make a bunch and still sell current models with every OS from Windows 7 to Windows 10 But anyway, it shows just how much someone can get for slightly less money than the 2016 macbook pro.
Or music production. I can use 30 GB easily in a session. A lot of my composer buddies were so disappointed by this Apple release.
It's not so much that they limit it to 16gb of ram. It's that they make it impossible to add more later. They've gone from a company making expensive products for professionals to people now make expensive products because they can sell them. The keynote was fucking embarrassing. The marketing lady they brought up at one point was terrible. The "funny" guy is old and not funny. They have become the very kind of company they made fun of in their commercials for years. How the times have changed.
Modded skyrim won't crash with 640 kb!
Yes, that is a big part of it to be honest. You aren't really taught to care about preserving it that much since you mostly have tons of it. Unless you are working on embedded systems it never really comes up.
Eh, ever since Lenovo put malware into the BIOS I can't trust them, no matter how good their laptops are. I'd rather have another brand like Dell.
That's why it weighs twice as much.
For the pros who don't need a goddamn SD card slot
It's so annoying that a guy incorrectly saying "You're spot on" has nearly 10 times the number of upvotes as you giving actual correct information.
I was thinking of Doom. You needed 4mb of RAM minimum to run it. Adding some memory to the old 386SX allowed me to at least play it, but you still couldn't play it full screen in the higher resolution setting unless you had at least a 486. That was the family computer, and when we got a new one, I claimed the old 386 for myself; I later upgraded it to a Cyrix 6x86, 16 mb of memory, and put a 1GB hard drive in it. Now my phone absolutely demolishes it by every possible metric. (My first computer was a Commodore 64, which is almost as powerful as a TI graphing calculator)
They also like progress *as they see it*.
Desktop on Linux might not be as advanced as HAL9000 but I don't get the feeling it's out to kill me. Seriously though, running your own red hat fork might have been a bad idea. I saw an account manager's version of this and could not offer him a reasonable solution for his main issue because his open office version was outdated. Maybe he could have choose a less stable branch but if office out of the box was a driver if the idea it failed afaict. Maybe the part that was missing was changing processes away from office, maybe there was even an alternative office suite was part of this company's own dog food?
Most people don't need 16, or more than 16, but it's utter garbage that that is where it stops. There's no explanation for that except "Apple wants you to discard your laptop as quickly as possible so you buy next generation too."
The Gillette macbook, smoothest a man can get
No USB type A, no SD card reader, integrated graphics on the 13inch and shit tier discrete GPU's in the 15inch, small battery, 8GB RAM on the 13inch (16GB if replaced), 16GB maximum on the 15inch...what the fuck were they thinking, none of that says professional. Edit: missed another thing, dual core only CPU on the 13inch...
Optimisation is a double edged sword in software development - it makes programs run faster, but it also makes them much harder to understand, fix and extend. When a program works 'well enough', there is no point in making it less easy to support by making it work faster.
1 Panorama or HDR of raw photos can take up 8gb of ram in Photoshop or Lightroom. What are you using photoshop for? /r/photoshopbattles ?
No it doesn't. The new 15" is quoted as "up to 10 hours" battery life where as the first Retina MacBook Pro from 2012 was quoted as "up to 7 hours" of battery life. The new 13" models, however, regress on battery life a bit from the earlier 13" models.
If they incorporated USB-C into the new iPhone, they might have also had room for a headphone jack. We can't have that.
Having a larger screen makes it easier to fit a larger battery for the same thickness. The larger screen would also draw more power but the battery size would more than compensate, especially for standby time.
Yep. And developers tend to use those a lot, which makes the pathetically small SSDs a huge problem too. The 740GB (SSD+HDD in a 2011 MBP) I have is a constant hassle for me already. 256GB is a sick joke, especially at that price.
They also removed the glowing apple logo.
The smaller the non-removable battery, the shorter the life of the product. Buy new one, rinse, repeat.
